Geometries of Silence

ongoing project

"Geometries of Silence" gathers a singular collection of black-and-white photographs that delve into the profound relationship between space and form, inviting viewers viewers into a quiet realm of reflection and introspection.

The project began during an artist residency at the Museu da Luz in Mourão, Portugal, in 2017. What started as an exploration of light, shadow, and space, over time evolved into a boundless inquiry into the landscapes we inhabit, the architectures we construct, and the human compulsion to impose order on the natural world. Remaining deliberately open-ended, "Geometries of Silence" unfolds like an unfinished puzzle, to which new pieces are continually added—each fragment enriching the whole.

The current images are fragments of a broader visual narrative, designed to immerse the observer in an interpretive experience. Minimalist in composition, the works see the artist replacing the most common figurative elements and staged photos, with structural lines, rich textures, pronounced vanishing points, and architectural transitions like entrances and passageways. Marked by a decadent and symbolic style, the monochromatic palette amplifies the perception of silence and stillness within the scenes, urging viewers to uncover latent beauty in seemingly empty spacesdevoid of human presence.

Through "Geometries of Silence", Moreira challenges the viewer's expectations, offering a dialogue between undefined territories and the constructive potential of emptiness. The carefully refined compositions—characterized by precise lines, deep contrasts, and evocative shadows—create an introspective atmosphere where silence becomes a medium for new meanings.
